#40for40while40: I recently turned 40. In the 40 day run up to my birthday, I committed, on Facebook, to run and/or workout for 40 minutes a day, each day, until I turned 40. I posted my experience each day under the hashtag #40for40til40, and received plenty of encouragement from friends, which I found uplifting and enjoyable. I also reconnected with some people that I hadn't been in touch with for a long time, and I made some new friends along the way. Posting each day gave me the discipline to write, which I also found rewarding.
After the 40 days were over, and my body began to heal, I kinda missed the whole thing, and I began to think about what to do next. So, I started a blog called 'Running Against the Wind', a blog about running, and the race of my life. I am committing to publish at least 40 times during this birthday year, roughly once a week (I never said I was great at math). This is roughly the length (in kms) of a marathon, so I am numbering my posts by the kilometer. I don't know if anyone will read it, but from my #40for40til40 experience I learned that I need deadlines, commitments, and purpose. I am learning to embrace my inner Type A and make it work to my advantage (down boy!). I want to continue running, and continue to reflect on running and life in general.
Being 40 is about taking stock of one's life, and checking in to make sure everything is running smoothly. Well, it's not, but I am thankful for where I am and for the people who surround me. I want to live life with humor and a sense of purpose and adventure. I want to continue to grow, and push myself to do new things. I want to leave old regrets and stumbling blocks in the past and move forward. Like I said, I'm running against the wind. #40for40while40
